Good quality entry and exit mats will help protect your resilient flooring from premature wear. They trap the dirt, sand, grit, and other substances such as oil, asphalt, or driveway sealer that would otherwise be tracked onto your floor. Mats are also suggested at heavy pivot locations, such as in front of your kitchen sink or stove. Take caution though, mats with latex or rubber backings can potentially cause discoloration.
As with any hard surface flooring product, a few well placed furniture pads will make a difference in maintaining the beauty of your vinyl by preventing scratches and dents. Dining chairs in particular tend to be culprits behind floor scratches. Be sure to remove small diameter buttons from the legs of straight chairs and replace with glides that have bearing surfaces with a minimum diameter of 1″. Use proprotionate pads to furniture legs with heavier pieces of furniture.
Snidely Whiplash may have the market on dastardly deeds, but a subtle enemy for any floor is dust, grit and grime. Sweep or vacuum frequently to remove the fiends and preserve the beauty of your floor. When using a vacuum, disengage the beater bar as it may scratch your floor and avoid using scrub brushes.
When sweeping or vacuuming does not remove the dirt, mop the floor with clean warm water. Rinse the floor thoroughly with fresh water.
